Happy Halloween!

I recognize a few of these guys in some of the horror movies I've seen but have forgotten their names.

Water Conservation Seminar

I found these pictures and thought I'd share them with you. I was at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) months ago for a water conservation seminar.
Took this picture just before the seminar started.
An hour long demonstration on how MWD operates. I've learned how they supply water to us Californians.
It makes me feel bad watering the lawn after this seminar.

Looks Cute!

I was looking for some garden gnomes or garden pixies but instead I found these! It would be nice to have them in my garden but I don't have enough money. And hey, don't forget to turn off your lights tonight between 8-9. Click here for more info.

How to Propagate: Coleus

Here are cuttings I took this morning. They're about 4-6 inches long.
I've got several varieties of coleus (sorry I don't know their exact names.)
I like coleus for it's colorful foliage.
The one on the right has burgundy foliage and on the left has the yellow streak.
Burgundy Coleus
This is also different from the ones above.
How to Propagate Coleus? Find a stem -- with leaves -- that's 4" to 6" long. Cut through the stem below the point where two leaves join it; then remove the bottom two or four leaves (this is where the root will form). Place it in a clear-glass container filled with water, and in about four weeks white roots will appear. At that point, plant it in soil and watch it grow.

Seed Saving: Pomegranate

I picked this fruit from the rest for it's seeds. It's by far the best looking among the pomegranates that I bought from the store.
Break it open and you will see lots of seeds that are surrounded by the deep red pulp.
Here is a closer look.
The pulp is edible. Here are the seeds after I took the pulp out. Let it dry under the sun for a couple of weeks and it's ready to be sown. For more information about pomegranate click here. Click here for Oprah's favorite pomegranate martini recipe.

Baby Sprouts!

I was chopping some tomatoes and found that this one has baby sprouts inside it! I don't know what caused the sprouts to develop. This tomato has been on the kitchen counter for weeks now and it's away from direct sunlight. It was something I've never seen happen before with a tomato.

Heirloom Tomato Seedlings

I only have the "regular" and cheery tomatoes growing in my garden. One day I was at the store and saw these pretty heirloom tomatoes, so I grabbed some, and yes, I saved the seeds. The seeds have grown into seedlings, they're about a foot tall now. Some are starting to flower. I planted them in these red plastic bags. These bags are all recycled. They usually use it for bagging meats in stores. I've heard red bags are good for tomatoes so I specifically saved them for the purpose.
I'm not sure which is which. I know I have at least four different heirloom tomatoes here. I'll just wait till all of them bears fruit. Just to see them flower gets me all excited!

Glimpse at these Rose Parade Floats!

Just two of the floats you will see at the Rose Parade. They will start decorating these floats with flowers by December.
